The Maine Adult Education Association has awarded Eleanor Chow, the dedicated student advisor for Massabesic Adult Education, the inaugural Student Advisor of the Year Award for 2024. This award, newly established by the association, is designed to highlight the outstanding contributions of advisors, counselors, transition coordinators, and navigators across the state of Maine.

Adam Goad, Director of Adult Education for Massabesic, introduced Chow at the awards ceremony, emphasizing her critical role within the school-based academic program. “Eleanor has been the hub of our program for four years, providing a vital link between students, teachers, and the broader community,” he noted. Chow’s responsibilities include managing all student intakes and overseeing CASAS testing, enabling her to give teachers comprehensive narratives for each student, covering academic strengths, growth areas, career aspirations, and other relevant background.

Chow’s active participation in statewide advisor networks, including her attendance at COABE and MAEA conferences and her service on the MAEA board this year, underscores her commitment to professional development and excellence in adult education.

Beyond her in-school responsibilities, Chow has significantly amplified public awareness and engagement with Massabesic’s Adult Education Program. Her strong relationships with local organizations have brought in new students, increased program visibility, and contributed to the successful outcomes of many community members.

Highlighting her impact, Goad shared the story of one recent student who, guided by Chow, successfully completed his HiSET exams, secured employment at Pratt & Whitney, and inspired his sibling to join the program. Both are now employed, with one pursuing higher education through his employer’s tuition support program.

“Eleanor’s dedication and passion for her students have made a tremendous impact on our community,” said Goad. “Her work is an inspiration to all of us at Massabesic Adult Education.”

RSU 57 extends its congratulations to Eleanor Chow for her exceptional service and this well-deserved recognition by the Maine Adult Education Association.
