RSU 57 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Resources
RSU 57 governs the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to ensure that a proper functional evaluation assessment and information security risk assessment is completed on each system. The following will provide employees a list of district-approved AI systems. Employees must use only those AI systems approved by the district.
Please note the following:
Use of an AI system not approved by the district is strictly prohibited, and subject to disciplinary action.
Protected or confidential information pertaining to employees, constituents, patients, etc., must not be submitted into an AI system.
Protected or confidential company information must not be submitted into an AI system.
Entering data into an AI system potentially exposes confidential, proprietary information to sources outside our organization. Treat the information submitted to such AI systems as if you are posting on a public site.
Any work produced by an AI system should be regarded with the same level of caution and review as an Internet search inquiry.
All work produced by AI systems must be properly cited.
As the capabilities of AI systems are rapidly evolving, employees must ensure that the use of such tools does not exceed parameters established by the school district and management. If there is any doubt or concern, consult with your manager.
Approved AI Resources
As a note about data security, these AI services do save all information entered into them. So, in the interest of preserving student privacy, make sure that any protected or confidential information is not entered into the AI tool. Protected or confidential information includes student names, grades, IEP information, addresses, etc.
Additionally, if you are using an AI tool for transcription of an online meeting you should notify all participants so that there can be informed consent. Confidential information must never be discussed when an AI tool is transcribing or summarizing a meeting.
Instructional Tools
The following platforms have teacher-facing and student-facing tools that are great options for using with your classroom.
Note Taking Tools
Here are two options with free plans for AI note takers that integrate with Google Meet. These both have a Google Chrome extension that will integrate with any Google Meet you run.
Other AI Tools for Staff
There are many other AI tools available for use that do not have an instructional focus. These tools can be used by staff as a way to write letters of recommendation, assist with research, generate images, etc. The district has approved the following:
ChatGPT - a chatbot that uses AI to generate human-like text and responses
Perplexity - research assistant
Microsoft Bing - image generator
Adobe Firefly - image generator
Canva - offers some integrated AI tools
IXL Spark Studio - create new materials for your classroom
Need Additional Support or Want to Request an AI Tool Review?
Additional support is available (in or out of class) to help set up any one of these AI tools. If you have a new AI tool that you would like to use, you can submit a review request. Support is available by submitting a Mustang Malfunction ticket and choosing the Other Requests -> eLearning -> App Request option.
